The Sequoia Awards presents scholarships to high school seniors from the greater Redwood City area who demonstrate an extraordinary level of volunteerism and community engagement. We also honor one outstanding adult who exemplifies volunteerism in Redwood City.
The Sequoia Awards was looking to improve the look and feel of their site. Primarily, they needed it to be accessible by students and donors from desktop or mobile. The old application process was clunky and handled mostly off of the site. We were asked to build an application that kept students on the site and make it accessible on mobile while also allowing for document uploads. Though the scholarship and students are at the forefront, the organization relies on donations and sponsors as well. We needed to present those in a way that there is impact and gives each the credit they deserve. Finally, the annual award dinner required a complete revamp so students, family and sponsors could manage their reservations and experience.
Students can apply for scholarships, donors can contribute faster and all visitors can stay informed with a new blog. The new website invites students and donors alike to browse previous award dinners in the new photo gallery. Responsive webforms let students apply and submit documents from any device. WooCommerce empowers the organization to sell tickets, manage coupons and run reports while giving attendees meal options and seat preferences. In addition to the WordPress core, there are some premium plugins like Yoast SEO and a Divi visual builder. The newsletter integration allows The Sequoia Awards to stay in touch with constituents and the new, responsive site elevates the organization so they can continue doing their impressive work within the community.
