Ecology Law Quarterly (ELQ) is among the oldest and most prestigious journals publishing environmental law scholarship. Publishing four issues a year, ELQ provides a forum for preeminent scholarship on groundbreaking environmental law topics, including renewable energy, environmental justice, and international environmental law. In 2008, ELQ launched Ecology Law Currents, an online companion journal designed to publish pieces on a more frequent basis than the print journal.
The ELQ content was spread over two separate web properties, so we needed to combine the two sites. That way, visitors would be able to navigate all of the content in one place with a coherent brand and design. The team at Ecology Law Quarterly publishes a lot of rich content, so they need all the latest publishing bells and whistles. Things like workflow management, custom taxonomy and search engine optimization tools. The primary objective of the project was to streamline navigation, interface design and content. Of course, they also wanted improved mobile accessibility and improved methods for analytics and tracking.
The new responsive website is easy to use, mobile optimized and built on WordPress. The design strengthens the brand and the visitor journey encourages click-throughs. A premium visual editor makes it easy for admins to create, categorize and optimize rich pages. They now have workflow, SEO, style and media controls so they can optimize journal entries. Robust taxonomy options, Google Scholar integration, contemporary design and fast load times creates an entirely improved experience for all stakeholders. The site has positioned ELQ as a leading player in the scholarly journal space.
